Unfortunately, as with many things in life, there is a cost to everything and it is the bedrock of any successful business to ensure that what they are producing is able to add to their bottom line. When deciding on a new project it is often the financial aspects that are assessed first, in order to discover whether a project is viable or not.  In this post, we look at the main production costs you need to think about prior to manufacture.

Firstly, it is important to consider the size of the part, the target market, complexity, quality and quantity of parts that you wish to produce. With the mold taking up a large proportion of the total cost, whether parts can be made out of the same mold block, also known as a family mold, is also prudent to consider.

Moving onto materials, this is where many producers like to cut costs, as you can produce parts out of many materials with differing qualities at varying prices. Material selection will also impact the wear rate of the mold and it is important to consider how many pieces in total you wish to produce prior to having to either remanufacture or resurface the mold, which also adds to the final costs. The cost for each part will be reduced when you are manufacturing more out of the same run, so it obviously follows that if you are planning on producing a part with a long or continuous production run, then the costs of the total project will be lower than producing a fixed run with lower numbers.
